As I was sitting behind the coffee bar, a young lady walked in the store looking a little troubled and despondent. Of course I greeted her as with all my customers. “Hello”, I said. “ How are you today” She looked at me in an inquisitive manner and said “I need a pick me up. Some chocolate, coffee, just something to make me forget that I have to go back to work.” It’s funny how we all work positions that are not satisfying to our souls. Of course in true Shennice fashion I dug a little deeper. “ Why are you not working your passion? Why are you staying at a location that is not fulfilling” She answered the typical response. “ I have got bills. It is only a dream to work at something you truly enjoy.” This comment saddens me. It is possible to work a job or career and be satisfied. Not matter what position we choose in life there is some amount of effort and work that goes into the process. This is for the young lady in the coffee house and for everyone who finds themselves with an epiphany of I deserve to be happy.
Now that I have the epiphany! I am ready to discover my passion. What do I do next.
Step one: When discovering your passion, don’t focus on what you do well; focus on what you enjoy doing.

What is your passion? This question has been asked by so many people in so many different ways. Passion is not simply something you do well. Passion is a inherent gift given to each individual to share with others and satisfy your soul. Ask yourself these questions: What do you do all day long and lose track of time? What characteristics do you demonstrate in your life that benefit someone other than yourself? Discovering your passion is not as challenging as it sounds and the process of discovery will tell you a lot about yourself in more ways then you can imagine. God has placed us in this world with purpose and reason. I believe it is up to us to find our passion and exercise our passionate gifts to fulfill that purpose. Change and finding your passion may not happen over night but beginning the process can. Dedicate yourself to finding your passion and working it!

Do you ever look at your life and wonder, is this all life has to offer? The answer is no! You can have more, do more, and be more. You may say more is not always better, but more is a state of being. I personally strive for more wisdom. I don’t think you can ever have too much of that. Someone else may strive for more courage to step out and pursue a dream. What ever your more may be, strive for excellence. Yes you are worth it.

It’s it amazing how many people can’t wait to get married but when you have a wedding the first thing you say is “I am so glad to have this wedding behind me.” Well I have fallen into the wedding planning post traumatic stress disorder category. I haven’t written in a while because I too was planning a wedding and on November 3rd, I was happily married to my love LeBrian Cleckley.
Although this is my second marriage this was my first wedding. In my younger years, I didn’t realize how much a wedding means not only to the bride and groom but to the entire family. Weddings are a celebration and an outward express of love to share with all who love and care for you. Our holiday season started with our holiday wedding. The wedding colors of brown and orange provided a romantic back drop of autumn. On our day, we were blessed with beautiful sunny fall weather, a host family and friends and love. Sometimes you miss the true meaning of a wedding by getting caught up with colors, dresses, flowers, programs and such. For me, I snapped into reality when I looked down the aisle and saw LeBrian waiting for my father to present me to him. A wave of excitement and electricity shot through my body as I looked into his eyes and realized I was not only marrying a man the truly loved me, but I was starting a new phase in my life. We, LeBrian and I, are joining two families in accordance to God’s will on our life. That is an awesome feeling to know you are following God’s will for you. I was so full I almost let loose at the altar!
Love is a wonderful emotion and action. Love is active and living. During this holiday season and beyond, remember to love yourself and others around you. Make a dedication to show and produce love in everything you do and say. Recommit to love ones by building them up and not tearing them down. Remember love truly does conquer all.

I thought I would have to give up caffeine but I just couldn’t. This hazelnut amaretto puts me in the mood to just chill out. Have you ever wondered why? I mean why something did or did not happen. Why did she say that or why did he do that. Why? Why? Why? I believe we focus too much on the why and not enough of the why not. A very wise lady told me in the coffeehouse today, if we focus so much on the why, when we get the answer we will just ask why again. Wondering about the unknown is a virtual hamster wheel. We continue to spin, spin and spin with no where to go. We continually focus on the problem instead of the solution. I challenge myself from now on to focus on the solution and stop saying WHY. Why not go for the job. Why not follow your passion. Why not spend some time to help your neighbor. Just do it! I am results driven. The only question is Why didn’t I start this way of thinking sooner?

It is often said you cannot have a testimony without a test. Following God’s plan for your life is definitely an act of faith and a test of your fortitude. When I first decided it was time to step out and follow my dream of owning a store, I followed the traditional paths of writing a business plan, contacting the proper people, and getting my finances in order. Well let me tell you that was the most discouraging act. Read the rest of this entry »

How important is it to follow your passion in life? We are all taught to finish high school, pick a good college, graduate and then work a job until you retire about 25 years later. Many people have very fulfilling and successful lives following this lifestyle roadmap. But there are others in life that must take the direction of a different atlas. What is your passion for life? What can you do all day and not worry about the time because it brings you so much joy? I had to ask myself this question this morning as I sipped my morning House Blend coffee. Am I pursuing my passion and purpose? In my life, I know one of my purposes is to help others find their passion. It is such a great feeling to see a grown man or woman giggle glee with joy when the realize their purpose or passion was always with them. In the coming days, stop and think about your passion for life. Are you fulfilling the purpose you have been feeling deep inside? Let me help you fulfill my purpose. What is your passion for life?

You can never tell a book by it’s cover. Yesterday while I was drinking a cup of hazelnut coffee, a woman walked in looking really tattered. Her clothes were ill fitting with Clorox spots. Her hair was pulled back in a messy bun, and those shoes were not even last season more like the last 10 seasons. At first glance, most people would immediately form an opinion about her wealth, health and person in general. Read the rest of this entry »
